About the Role

The purpose of this position is to employ learners who can complete the Basic Pharmacist Assistant course. The course equips participants with practical knowledge of the pharmaceutical environment, focusing on quality, accuracy, and professionalism. Candidates will be employed in a fixed-term capacity until registration with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC) as learner basic assistants. Permanent employment will be considered once the qualification is achieved.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

• Grade 12 (Matric) or Senior Certificate
• At least 50% in Pure Mathematics
• At least 50% in Life Sciences and/or Physical Science
• A minimum average of 50% overall

Candidates must also complete a proficiency test to qualify for SAPC registration as learner basic assistants.

Key Responsibilities

Dispensary Support staff will work under the direct supervision of a pharmacist and perform duties including:

• Assisting in the sale of Schedule 1 medicines and scheduled substances
• Supporting the compounding and preparation of non-sterile medicines under supervision
• Assisting in the unpacking, merchandising, and cleaning of dispensary and over-the-counter shelves
• Ensuring accurate interpretation and handling of prescriptions in line with SAPC regulations
• Participating in stock control, including monitoring expiry dates and maintaining shelf order
• Following up with patients regarding script tracking and scheduling follow-up appointments
• Handling call centre scripts and patient service calls
• Providing basic health information to customers
• Assisting with medical scheme authorizations for chronic, HIV, and oncology medication
• Reporting stock shortages or errors to the Dispensary Manager
• Receiving dispensary stock according to company Standard Operating Procedures

Advantageous Skills

• Experience in retail FMCG or Dis-Chem front shop operations

• Familiarity with Unisolv, SAP, and E-Scripting systems

Special Conditions of Employment

• Successful completion of a proficiency test for SAPC registration
• Must be a South African citizen
• Clear criminal and credit record verified by MIE
