Top Fashion Stylist Takes Us Through the Making of Bonang Matheba’s Stunning Dress. One thing about Bonang Matheba, she always puts a good fashion foot forward.Whether she is on a big stage as a host, on the red carpet or just taking it easy at events, she stands out. Bonang recently stepped out in a striking bright orange dress for the L’Oréal Paris South Africa Makeup Masterclass. The dress which was made all the way in Nigeria is still making waves, days after the event.
For @bonang_m @lorealparis moment, I wanted to create something that felt rich, sensual, powerful and unapologetically African, but still refined enough for an international beauty stage.
My mood board started with the warmth of African earth and golden hour skin tones, intricate beadwork, rich amber and bronze, and the fluidity of traditional handcrafted details. I was drawn to the paisley inspired motifs and the way the beads and cascading fringe could move, catch the light and come alive with every step.
And because she was hosting, movement was important to me. I wanted a look that didn’t just photograph beautifully, but moved with her, caught the light and held attention from every angle.
When I sent the measurements and my sketch to @emaginebybukola she said “Maklin, I love this concept and weeks later, she delivered something even more beautiful than I had imagined.
I brought the vision. She brought the craftsmanship. Together, we created the moment.
