The unstable Dr Ramphele

Still on that open letter notion, Agang’s leader Mamphela Ramplele has written an open letter to the public stating that she will be handing over her duties to Agang SA’s National Youth Forum co-coordinator Nyameka Mngomezulu and Chairman Tshishonga. She doesn’t say she is leaving the party but says she will be taking a break from politics. This follows her media people sending out messages to journalists asking them to be gracious in their critique.

Agang was launched a year before the elections and not so long ago Ramphele joined the Democratic Alliance as its presidential candidate. It was reported that she did so without informing members of her party and was forced to back down embarrassingly from her decision. And now she is taking a step back.

Politics is no game and fun. This is a huge disappointment to those who had faith in her. When the going gets tough you need to adjust, hold on and adapt, they would agree. She made it clear that she was disappointed by the nation’s choice in the 2014 South African elections. “It all culminated in the election last week in which the people of South Africa spoke loudly and clearly, and showed a preference for the status quo”, she wrote.

In the letter she thanks everybody who supported the party, and says in the meantime she will be reflecting on the party’s journey and will return to help build it. She did it in open letter style.
