Qhawekazi Mazaleni Encourages Learners to Embrace Their Mother Tongue Through Her Literacy Outreach Programme. Even before she entered the Miss South Africa competition, Qhawekazi Mazaleni was big on education and literacy. Winning the pageant saw has take her passion to even greater heights.
Qhawe holds a degree in speech, language, and hearing therapy from Stellenbosch University. Currently she is pursuing her Master’s in speech language pathology at the University of Pretoria with a focus on autism. The beauty queen is also a published author. Qhawe has published a children’s book in isiXhosa to promote early language development. She also aims to expand educational resources in indigenous languages.
Now that Qhawe is the reigning Miss South Africa, she is using her fame to push education and literacy. At every chance she gets, she makes sure she inspires the younger generation to read and learn. Just recently Qhawe was at Nkone Primary School in Braamfischer where she continued with her mandate. She touched learners by reading for them, from her children’s book titled, Amasele Amdaka. While at it, Qhawe also encouraged the to embrace their mother tongue and celebrate themselves.
