This past Sunday, the Presidency announce that the first citizen, Cyril Ramaphosa has tested positive for the virus.

According to the Minister in the Presidency Mondli Gungubele, the president started feeling ill after he left a state memorial service held in honour of former deputy president FW de Klerk in Cape Town earlier on Sunday. Everyone who has had contact with the President in the past few days have been advised to watch for symptoms or to have themselves tested.

As someone who has been calling on people to adhere to the set regulations, Ramaphosa stated that his own infection serves as a caution to all people in the country to be vaccinated and remain vigilant against exposure.

Just like any other person who is not well, Ramaphosa has also taken leave. He has been booked off for the week to rest. We wish the president a speedy recovery, as well as everyone else battling the virus.
