Apprentice Millwright Opportunities at Transnet – Durban, Koedoespoort, Salt River

Transnet Corporate Centre is offering apprenticeship positions for Millwrights at its Durban, Koedoespoort, and Salt River locations. The application closing date is 29 September 2025. Applicants must ensure their applications reach HR before the closing date.

The apprenticeship is a structured work-based learning program. Apprentices work under the supervision of skilled, qualified Artisans while attending formal instruction at designated training facilities. The program combines practical experience with the theoretical knowledge required for national Technical Certificate Courses.

Position Purpose

The apprenticeship aims to develop skilled Millwrights capable of handling trade-related tasks safely and efficiently. Apprentices will learn to plan and prepare work sites, equipment, tools, consumables, and materials. They will use hand, power, and measuring tools, install, assemble, fit, and connect electrical equipment and control systems. Additional responsibilities include testing, inspecting, commissioning, maintaining, and repairing electrical equipment, control systems, and assemblies.

Qualifications and Experience

Applicants must have one of the following:

  • N2 Subjects: Electrical Trade Theory, Industrial Electronics, Engineering Science.
  • N3 Subjects: Industrial Electronics, Mathematics (Pure), Engineering Science, Electro-technology/Electrotechnics, Fitting & Machining, Engineering Drawing.
  • NCV Level 4: First Additional Language (English), Mathematics (Pure), Life Orientation, vocational subjects, Engineering Process, Professional Engineering Practice, Applied Engineering Technology, Fitting & Turning.
  • Technical Grade 12: Life Orientation, Mathematics (Pure), Engineering and Graphic Design, Home Language, First Additional Language, Physical Science, Fitting and Machining, Mechanical Technology.

Applicants must be between 18 and 35 years old.
