Julius Malema critics describe him as fascist (a governmental system led by a dictator having complete power, forcibly suppressing opposition and criticism emphasizing an aggressive nationalism and often racism). Malema is all about controversy, we have recently witnessed his action in parliament as an Economic Freedom Fighter. Here are the top 10 things you don’t know about him.

1) Malema, a Pedi, was born and grew up in Seshego, in Limpopo of South Africa. His mother was a domestic worker and a single parent.

2) He joined the African National Congress’s ‘Masupatsela’ at the age of nine or ten. His main task at that point was to remove the Posters.

3) Malema graduated from Mohlakaneng High School in Seshego, Limpopo. In 2010, Malema completed a two-year diploma in youth development through University of South Africa (UNISA). In 2011 he enrolled at UNISA for a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications and African languages.

4) Malema was elected a chairman of the Youth League branch in Seshego and the regional chairman in 1995. In 1997 he became the chairman of the Congress of South Africa(Cosas) for the Limpopo province, and was elected as the national president of that organization in 2001

5) His turning point for him against President Jacob Zuma was when he made an acceptance speech and press conferences he addressed subsequently, when he said that nothing would change economically, he says.

6) He was listed in Time’s Least Influential People of 2010, whereas conversely Forbes Magazinenamed him as one of the “10 Youngest Power Men In Africa” in September 2011.

7) South African country singer Tommy Dell released a protest song about Malema called “Malema Dilemma” on the album Die Pollotik

8) He believes people who should be investing in this country are Asians. He calls them the “Asian Tigers”

9) Juju likes to DJ in his spare time. According to him, if he wasn’t a politician he would be a DJ.

10) He has a 7 year old son called Ratanang, who was born 3 months after his mother passed away.
