Former Police Officer Arrested in Connection With the Krugersdorp Gang Rape

Former Police Officer Arrested in Connection With the Krugersdorp Gang Rape. Many people have dubbed the world’s rape capital. This is because of the rape incidents that go on daily in the country. In one of the saddest incidents this year, eight young women were gang raped in July while filming a music video in Krugersdorp, near abandoned mines in the West Rand of Johannesburg.

The mass rape took place at the second location the crew used for filming, after they first shot at a restaurant. The crew, which was made up of 20 people was also robbed of equipment, money and cellphones. The news made headlines across the country and beyond, with everyone seeking justice for the unfortunate young women.

Immediately after the incident, fingers pointed at illegal miners, who are known as zama zamas. These group of men have been terrorizing the community for years, according to reports. According to Police Minister Bheki Cele, the 14 zama zamas who were arrested were positively identified by the victims and the investigation is still ongoing.

There has been a breakthrough in the case with a member of the film crew getting arrested. A woman by the name of Dolphina Trutter is charged in connection with the gang rape in July of eight women. According to some reports, she and her daughter were not among those who were raped, something that has left question marks.

Trutter was also found in possession of some of the stolen items belonging to the victims. The former cop at Krugersdorp police station, has been charged with defeating the ends of justice and theft. She is due to appear in court again on 28 October alongside 14 other suspects.
