Masasa Mbangeni Returns to the Small Screen With a Cool Role. It has been a minute since fans have seen Masasa Mbangeni do her thing on TV. The wait is almost over now, as the award-winning actress is back with a new role.
Masasa started acting back in the day when she made guest appearances on two television serials: as ‘Eunice’ on the BBC crime drama Silent Witnesses and as ‘Jackie’s personal assistant’ on the M-Net soapie, Egoli. In 2013, she joined Scandal! playing ‘Thembeka Shezi’. She received two nominations for Best Actress in a TV Soap from the South African Film and Television Awards (SAFTA) in 2014 and 2015 for the role. At the same time, she also received a nomination for Best Actress in the inaugural DStv Mzansi Magic Viewers Choice Award.
Masasa also appeared in the season two of thriller television series Thola. Then she played the role ‘Celia’ on the series Harvest. She has also been on shows like The River, The Republic and Mzali Wam‘.
Now she is back with another TV role. Masasa has been cast in Devil’s Peak. The upcoming five-episode crime thriller is based on the best-selling 2004 novel by writer Deon Meyer. In the series, Detective Benny Griessel has to track down a vigilante killer whose crimes are becoming popular all over the city. Masasa plays Mbali Kaleni, Benny’s detective colleague. Benny is played by Hilton Pelser, whose other credits include Moffie and Kissing Booth. Devil’s Peak also stars, Sisanda Henna playing Thobela Mpayipheli desperately seeking justice after the untimely murder of his son.
Benny and Thobela are brought into the orbit of trapped mother, Christine (played by Arendsvlei’s Tarryn Wyngaard). Christine is willing to do anything to achieve a better life for herself and her daughter.
