SA Celebs React To Thando Thabethe Replacing DJ Fresh On 947. Although we have talented women broadcasters, the fact of the matter is that the industry is male dominated. Most of the drive shows on radio stations across the country are presented by males. Radio personalities like DJ Fresh, Mo Flava, Phat Joe, Thomas Msengana, Tbo Touch, Glen Lewis, Sizwe Dhlomo and many more have enjoyed the privilege of hosting drive time radio shows as opposed to their female counterparts.
The good thing is that, radio stations are now starting to give female broadcasters a chance to prove themselves. We already have the likes of Anele Mdoda, Unathi, Lerato Kganyago and Dineo Ranaka cementing themselves as sought after radio personalities. Another female who is making her name felt in the industry, is the formidable Thando Thabethe. She announced today on Twitter, that she will be joining the team as the official drive time host of “947 Drive with Thando.” Thabethe’s show will be replacing the Fresh On 947.
“It’s HAPPENING!!! So glad to finally announce that I’m officially driving you home Joburg #947DriveWithThando,” Thando announced.
Today is International Women’ s Day, a perfect day to receive such great news. Another thing, it is a major comeback for Thando who parted ways with 5FM in March 2020. She spent 6 years at the radio station, but unfortunately, had some kind of misunderstanding with the management.
A few weeks ago, the station bid farewell to DJ Fresh, who was caught up in a rape allegation scandal. Media personality, Mantsoe Pout who worked alongside DJ Fresh on his show has also been let go. The final 947-line up changes will be revealed on Thursday, 11 March 2021. Congratulations to the new faces, and all the best to those who left the station.
