On his Instagram, the admin notified the online community about AKA’s birthday and acknowledged his impact in the local music scene.
“Today, the nation pauses to honour a son of the soil who carried South Africa with him wherever he went. Kiernan’s voice gave us confidence, his music gave us identity, and his legacy continues to inspire generations. Though he may be absent in body, his presence lives on in every lyric, every memory, every dream he helped shape. 38 in spirit. Infinite in legacy. Long live Supa Mega Live Long ♾️

To mark AKA’s birthday, we caught up with his mom Lynn Forbes. The podcaster has always been open about her grief, doing interviews and posting post about AKA. This time around Lynn is opening up about the lessons grief has taught her. At first it was a surreal feeling, and as time went by, pain got more intense. She also got to learn how AKA impacted people around the country and beyond.
“I’ve learnt that grief doesn’t move in a straight line. In the beginning, everything is shock and survival. Later, the layers deepen. You start to understand the true magnitude of the absence, not just in big moments but in everyday life.“
“I’ve also learned how much love he carried in this country. The stories people still share, the music that still lives, the way strangers speak about him. It has taught me that his impact went far beyond what I saw as his mother,” Lynn said.
