Social Media Reacts to Jackie Phamotse’s Sentencing. On Tuesday, the case that has been dragging for six years finally came to an end. The Kumalos breathed a sigh of relief after Jackie Phamotse was sentenced for defaming them.

The multi-award winning author Jackie got a 2 years sentenced of house arrest following the Basetsana and Romeo Kumalo defamation saga. Jackie was also given a fine of R30,000 or 10 months in prison. On too of it, she was given unpaid community service. The Randburg magistrate’s court also fined Phamotse R12 000 on count three or four months imprisonment. On count four, she was penalized R18 000 or six months imprisonment.

The case against Jackie stems from a series of tweets and statements she made on social media in 2018. The best selling author and now TV producer made allegations insinuating the existence of a compromising video involving the Kumalos and another male figure. The tweet trended, with social media user coming up with all sorts of theories. The accusations were not only damaging to Kumalo’s reputation, they also became subjected to social media trolls.

After the sentencing the Kumalos, represented by Basetsana shared that they accept the judgement. Basetsana told the press that the past six years have not been easy for the, more especially for their young children. She also shared that their victory is dedicated to South Africans who constantly get cyber-bullied, including those who lost their lives because of it.
