Tweeps React to Bujy Bikwa Bagging a Role In a Gender Based Violence Doccie-Series. Are abusers getting rewarded here in South Africa? That is the question that so many people ask themselves. A person will trend for abuse allegations, after a certain time they are living their lives like its Golden, bagging gigs like nothing ever happened.
Case in point will be the Kabelo Mabalane saga in November 2021. The award winning musician, who is now a pastor was dragged on social media for being on the forefront of a gender based violence campaign. In the past, Kabelo used to battle drug addiction for years, and constantly found himself in trouble. He will beat up people in clubs and end up on the wrong side of the law and believed that women should be treated like they are nothing.
He managed to turn his life around though, and is on his 20th year as a sober man. Kabelo is also an activist, who uses his experience to teach against GBV issues. It was after launching the #NoExcuse, campaign, which is for the ‘healing’ and ‘transforming’ of perpetrators that Kabelo was dragged. Many felt he is cashing in on his past as a abuser, and also giving other abusers chance to shine.
Another male celebrity is being crucified to being in a GBV project. Bujy Bikwa made headlines in 2021, after Boity Thulo alleged that he assaulted her at some club. Pictures of the injured Boity trended on social media, and because of loss of work and medical costs, she asked Bujy for R1,2 million as part of a settlement agreement.
Just like many issues out there, this one also eventually died, and it’s not clear if the two came to an amicable settlement or not. It is only today when Bujy bagged himself a gig tackling GBV issues, that the matter gets addressed again. The media personality has been announced as part of MTV Shuga: What Makes a Man, which tackles the subject of GBV issues.
