10 Interesting Facts About Diepcity’s Nompumelelo Vilakazi (Sne). One thing we love about DiepCity is that the show has opened up the industry and given new faces a chance. The Mzansi Magic drama has brought us the likes of Lebohang Mpyana and Moshine Mo Mametja to mention only two.

Another talented actress we got to know through DiepCity is Nompumelelo Vilakazi. The award winning actress plays the role of Snenhhlanhla, who is commonly known as Sne. The character of this struggling single mother trying to feed her family is relatable to many.

1. Nompumelelo Vilakazi was born in 20 October 1997 in eMangwaneni, Bergville. Like many people out there, she was raised by her grandparents.

2. When she was 14 years , she moved into a township close to Estcourt where to stay with her siblings. That is when she joined a local community theatre group called the OCABI Project.

3. Nompumelelo was bullied constantly because of the way she looked. That pushed her to work even harder to achieve good grades.

4. She is a qualified life science and Geography teacher and graduated from the University of KwaZulu-Natal with a Degree in education.

5. Leaving a job that she recently qualified for was a concern to her family. After years of studying at the University of KwaZulu-Natal to obtain a degree in education, she opted to simultaneously follow her dream of becoming an actress.

6. Her first professional acting role came in 2021 when she was cast in the starring role of Snenhlanhla ‘’Sne’’ in the Mzansi Magic telenovela DiepCity.

7. Nompumelelo got the news of this role on an Instagram live and auditioned for the producer Mandla right there on Instagram. She then got a call-back and went in for a real audition, and as they say, the rest is history.

8. Her character is part of a gang of four girls who are friends who become burglars to make ends meet. Sne killed her boyfriend after enduring years of abuse, and now she is trying to pick up her life.

9. The role saw her winning The Best Newcomer Award at the Royalty Soapie awards. She has also been nominated in the category, Best Newcomer Actress: Simon “Mabhunu” Sabela KZN Film and TV Awards.

10. Since she doesn’t have any formal acting training, Nompumelelo has developed her own tools and ways of staying on course. She attentively listens to the director and absorbs what he says, which helps her better understand what he expects from her and the character.
