Heartfelt Tributes Pour In For The Late Veteran Actor MacDonald Mathunjwa

Heartfelt Tributes Pour In For The Late Veteran Actor MacDonald Mathunjwa. 2021 has claimed quite a number of our veteran actors. One can think about the likes of Menzi Ngubane, Sam Phillips, Lindiwe Ndlovu David Buttler, Noxolo Maqashalala, Ceagan Arendse and Ben Kruger as some of the talent we have lost so far in the year.

We have sadly lost another one of our great veteran actors and music producer, Macdonald Mathunjwa. The legendary actor and musician passed away on June 1st in the early hours of the morning. The news of his passing was announced by his daughter Zanoxolo Mathunjwa on Twitter.

Mathunjwa is best known for his role in hit SABC’s drama series Home Affairs. He also played Oupa in the SABC1 comedy series Khululeka. Some of his other roles include playing Tshibaphi in the SABC1 drama series Intsika, in 2011. One of his biggest TV gigs saw him in the SABC1 mini-series uGugu no Andile, based on the Shakespearean play Romeo and Juliet, in 2008. Soap opera lovers will also remember him on the old or defunct Generations on SABC1 as Mawande’s father.

As a musician, Mathunjwa composed music for many local groups, including Colours of the Rainbow, The Angels, Abigail Kubheka, the late Jacob “Mpharanyana” Radebe and Soul Brothers. He also created music for many shows, including Stokvel, Mazinyo Dot Com and Hayi Bo Mnakwethu on Moja Love. He is the brain behind the famous theme song of Stokvel, a comedy show that was flighted on SABC 2.

Heartfelt tributes have been pouring for the legendary actor and the Mathunjwa family. We send our sincere condolences to his family, loved ones colleagues and fans.
