Bonang Matheba Reveals She’s Also Book Smart

Bonang Matheba (29) is a local example of the power of the celebrity brand. According to Timothy Maurice , a personal branding expert and author, the power of a personal brand is that it is able to promote you and tell your story even while you are sleeping.  Through the value of her name alone, Matheba has been able to generate consistent and meaningful revenue.

Since she first made her mark in the television industry in the early 2000’s, the television presenter, radio DJ, MC and brand ambassador, has gone on to create a name that her audiences know and respond to.

The funny thing about celebrities is that even if you think you know everything there is to know about them, they can still surprise you.

Case in point: many people might think that Bonang Matheba is unintelligent because she doesn’t have any qualifications, but she is actually really smart. She has a surprisingly high IQ that really put the rest of us to shame – and this is before you consider the fact that she happens to be SA’s most successful presenter of all-time who is loved by people all over the world.

Speaking to the youth at Nedbank’s Talk for Success, Matheba put to rest critics who always felt that she isn’t book smart because she doesn’t have any Tertiary qualification to her name.

Bonang revealed that she received five distinctions in Matric. Yep five distinctions!!

“I matriculated in High School with a couple of distinctions, I was actually quite cool.. In Geography, Science ,Afrikaans , Travel and Tourism, and Mathematics. But I don’t know How I ended up in Television”

She admitted that she failed to complete her education at the University of Johannesburg due to work commitments.

In 2015, it was reported that the star was excluded from her marketing course after failing the same modules several times.

A source told the mag that Bonang, a former University of Johannesburg student, became very popular on campus because of her TV gig. “People would stare at her wherever she went on campus and maybe that’s why she she didn’t attend classes regularly.”

The source told Move that Bonang did not drop out of university, but was excluded. “It’s not like she was dumb, everything she has she worked for and it takes brains to build an empire like hers. She was late for lectures if she came at all and with her lifestyle I can’t imagine when she would have has time to study.
