Job Overview

The Trainee Grain Grader will support daily grain handling operations while receiving training in grain grading, quality management and food safety standards. The role includes assisting with grain intake and dispatch, maintaining accurate records, supporting weighbridge operations and ensuring compliance with Occupational Health and Safety regulations. You will work closely with experienced team members while developing the technical skills needed to become a qualified Grain Grader. This position requires attention to detail, strong organisational skills and the ability to work in a physically demanding environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist with raw material handling during grain intake and dispatch
• Support grain grading activities under the supervision of qualified staff
• Assist with weighbridge operations and record keeping
• Maintain hygiene, cleanliness and infestation control standards
• Support Quality Management Systems and food safety procedures
• Perform administrative duties, including filing and data capturing
• Ensure compliance with Occupational Health and Safety regulations
• Communicate effectively with supervisors, customers and farmers
• Maintain accurate operational records and documentation
• Assist in ensuring grain quality meets industry standards
• Participate in on-the-job training and development programmes
• Support daily silo operations as required

Requirements and Skills

• Grade 12 / Matric
• Willingness to complete a Grain Grader and Fumigation Course
• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
• Strong administrative, filing and record management skills
• Good communication skills with customers and farmers
• Ability to work in a grain-handling environment, including exposure to dust, heights and confined spaces
• Strong attention to detail
• Willingness to learn and develop new skills
• Ability to work under pressure
• Bilingual in Afrikaans and English
• Willingness to work overtime and night shifts when required
• Valid Code 08 driver’s licence
• Willingness to travel
