Basetsana Kumalo Gushes Over Her Sister Johanna and the Bond They Have

Basetsana Kumalo Gushes Over Her Sister Johanna and the Bond They Have. As the saying goes, ‘Having a sister is like having a best friend you can’t get rid of. You know whatever you do, they’ll still be there.’ The bond between Basetsana Kumalo and Johanna Makgaleme is exactly like that. Even though they are in their 50’s the two are still tight and inseparable.

Over the weekend Basetsana celebrated her 50th birthday with a party that went on for three days. Friends and family from near and far came to celebrated with the former Miss SA, entrepreneur and author. Basetsana has been sharing birthday wishes she got from the likes of phenomenal women like Bonang Matheba, Graça Machel and Nolitha Fakude. All of them sang her praises, and shared their memorable experiences with Bassie.

Her sister Johanna also got to share a few words. She spoke about their childhood, their amazing bond and how they still hold it together as siblings. In turn Bassie also shared how amazing life with Johanna has been. She regards her as her confidant, protector, and her number one supporter.

“Oh my God. Where would I even begin to tell the world about you? My sister, my confidant, My Ma Se Kind, the one who makes me believe in myself when I don’t. Where I do I begin to tell the world about your greatness, your big presence and energy?

The very first person who believed in me when I entered Miss South Africa and they were asking, “Hmmm, this looks like your sister.” And you said, “My sister is perfect.” And you know Niko, you’ve carried me through, in prayer, you’ve carried me through in my darkest moments. You’ve carried me through even when I didn’t believe or know what day of the week it was,
” Bassie said.

She also mentioned how Johanna stood up for her during her miscarriages. “You know I remember when we had to go to Linksfield Hospital, I was probably on my 5th miscarriage and had to have the D&C. The sister was so unkind and said, “Oh it’s you again. We should have a timeshare for you because you come here often.” You could have lashed out at her (and you were very upset). So you shouted at her “How dare! How dare! How dare you even say that to my sister?! Do you know how much she’s been through? You come here making a joke that she should have a timeshare? Oh wow, you should be ashamed of yourself,” she added.

You’ve always fought my battles, growing up ko Marks Square and in the world. You are the only one human being that I know for sure has got my back, unequivocally, unwavering and steadfast.

Niko, you know, someday perhaps we need to write a book about sisterhood. Because you represent every single definition and ounce of family love, of sisterhood, of how you look after your own. God Almighty loves me, that I could be birthed in the same home as you. Never competing, never trying to be anything else but willing me to walk my own path, applauding me and celebrating my every little milestone.

I love you babygal. I love you mtasekhaya. UThixo angcinele wena, akukhusele mtakabawo. UNomazizi no Phillip basijongile, and they want us to continue in the realm of family love and family union,
” what an inspirational sisterhood the two have!
