Mandela Day Should Be Everyday
With the 18th of July being just 2 days away, corporate companies are getting ready for Mandela day and their 67 minutes acts of kindness. In a day, the country will become a better place. But what happens on the 19th or a week later? Mandela was known for his eloquent speaking that touched lives and changed perceptions. He backed his word up with acts of kindness though. It’s easy to just speak and get standing ovations but how much of your words come alive? There’s nothing wrong with the world being inspired by him and wanting to follow in his footsteps, but does it mean that following in his footsteps has to be restricted to a single day?
Commemorating and celebrating people who played great roles in the country is important because their memory needs to be kept alive through generations to come. Mandela day is a great initiative, but his existence and influence is worth more than a day. Then again, his life was to inspire change in lives. A better word or description then would be “Mandela lifestyle”. The world will never have another Mandela. His role and purpose in life was fulfilled and what we do with it is up to us. He spent 67 years making the world a better place but all we have to show for if it just 67minutes on a particular day. Mandela day should be everyday because acts of kindness should be a daily thing.
It’s all a personal choice. Yes we all chasing a career or money but a day every month would have a better impact in our communities as compared to just a day in a year. I’m not saying buy someone a house but little acts combined in a year would go a long way.
