Samsung Galaxy A37 5G Review: Arriving Just in Time for Durban

There’s something about perfect timing that feels almost scripted. For me, that moment came right before my Durban vacation when a package from Samsung landed at my doorstep while I practically already had one foot on the plane to KwaZulu-Natal. Honestly, the timing could not have been better. I had been stressing about my old Samsung Galaxy A05, which I got back in 2024, and while it had served me well, it was clear that I urgently needed an upgrade.
So when the new Samsung Galaxy A37 5G arrived, it genuinely felt like Samsung had read my mind. But this wasn’t just a phone delivery. Samsung sent through an entire branded creator box packed with the Samsung Galaxy A37 5G, a tripod, microphones, and a ring light to elevate my content creator journey. Immediately, it felt like more than a review device, it felt like support for creators trying to do more with mobile content.

What made the experience even more interesting was how seamless the transition felt from my old device to the new one. Using Samsung Smart Switch, everything migrated without stress or complication. Normally, changing phones comes with that annoying process of manually moving photos, reinstalling apps, and trying to remember logins, but this time it was different. Within a short space of time, my contacts, gallery, apps, and settings were already sitting exactly where I needed them. It didn’t feel like I was starting over, it felt like I had simply upgraded the hardware and continued where I left off.
And once I switched the phone on, I instantly understood the hype.
The Samsung Galaxy A37 5G comes with a 6.7-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, and while the size is similar to my A05, the experience is worlds apart. The moment the screen lit up, I could already see the difference. Everything feels richer, smoother, brighter, and more premium. It’s one of those upgrades you don’t just notice on paper you feel it immediately.

Then there’s the speed. Powered by Samsung’s Exynos 1480 processor, the experience of using the phone daily feels incredibly smooth and responsive. I’m not a gamer, but I do rely heavily on productivity apps, editing tools, and social media platforms, often all at once. This phone handled everything effortlessly. Paired with 8GB RAM, multitasking no longer feels like something you have to manage carefully it just happens naturally in the background.
The colour I received was Awesome Lavender, and Samsung absolutely nailed the aesthetic. It’s soft, stylish, and has this subtle appeal that makes you want to keep picking the phone up even when you don’t need to. Beyond the colour, the phone itself feels beautifully built. The curves are precise, the materials feel durable, and the slim design makes it comfortable in the hand without any unnecessary bulk.
Now let’s talk storage, because this is where things really hit home for me. With 256GB of storage, there’s a kind of freedom that comes with not constantly worrying about space. As someone who captures a lot of photos and content, storage anxiety is very real. But this time, I could just shoot, create, and store without second-guessing what needs to be deleted.
And Durban gave me the perfect opportunity to put everything to the test.

The Samsung Galaxy A37 5G features a triple rear camera setup with a 50MP main camera with OIS, an 8MP ultra-wide lens, and a 5MP macro lens. From beach shots to harbour views, food content, and everyday vacation moments, the phone consistently delivered sharp, vibrant, and reliable images that felt ready for posting without much editing.

What also made a big difference during the trip was the combination of 45W fast charging and a 5,000mAh battery. Durban days are long and unpredictable, especially when you’re constantly moving between locations, shooting content, and staying connected. The ability to quickly top up the battery and confidently get through the entire day made a real difference in how I used the phone.
But the standout experience for me really came down to the AI features.
The AI-powered scene optimization stood out immediately. Testing it in different environments — from food shots to night harbour scenes you could actually see the phone adjusting lighting, contrast, and tone in real time. It doesn’t feel like a gimmick; it feels like a quiet assistant making sure every shot is balanced.
Then there’s the Object Eraser feature, which quickly became one of my favourites. Anyone who takes photos in public spaces knows the frustration of unwanted objects or people in the background. Instead of relying on edits that feel obvious or overdone, this tool removes distractions cleanly and naturally, without leaving that “edited” look behind.
Circle to Search with Google also proved its value in everyday use. Instead of asking questions in comment sections like “What brand is this?” or “Where is this place?”, you can simply circle anything on your screen and get instant answers. It’s simple, fast, and surprisingly addictive once you start using it.
As someone who enjoys music, I also found the phone’s music recognition capabilities particularly useful. Discovering Amapiano tracks on the go without constantly switching between apps added to the convenience of the experience. It made everything feel more seamless and integrated throughout the day.
I also appreciated how accessible content consumption became while travelling. Whether listening to articles during long drives or multitasking while moving between locations, the overall experience felt flexible and aligned with how people increasingly consume content today.
Now, if there’s one thing I wish had been included in the creator box, it would probably be a screen protector or a phone case. But I also understand the argument the phone already comes with IP68 water and dust resistance and Gorilla Glass Victus+ protection, which gives a strong sense of durability out of the box.
Would that stop me from still adding my own protection? Definitely not. But it does add a layer of reassurance knowing the device is built to handle real-world use.
And that feeling reassurance mixed with control — is really what defines my experience with the Samsung Galaxy A37 5G.
The best AI integration, in my opinion, is not about replacing creativity or effort. It’s about enhancing what you already do in a way that still leaves you in charge. The Samsung Galaxy A37 5G gets that balance right.
And for a Durban vacation that needed a reliable upgrade at exactly the right moment, it delivered more than just a new device it delivered a smoother, more confident way of creating on the move.
