Thabo Rametsi to Play Hugh Masekela In A Highly Anticipated Musical Drama Featuring International Stars. It’s quite heartwarming to see our talented actors get cast alongside their international counterparts in films. That is why Thabo Rametsi is being celebrated massively for his upcoming acting gig.
The award winning actor has been cast in The Road Home, a musical drama about South African jazz legends Miriam ‘Mama Africa’ Makeba and Hugh Masekela, and their Apartheid-era Graceland tour with Paul Simon. Rametsi will play the renowned trumpeter Masekela, and judging fro his Instagram, he has been studying the late legend. A few weeks back, he posted a throwback picture of himself posing with Masekela. On the caption he wished him a happy birthday. In February Rametse shared a small reading from the book Still Grazing. The autobiography shares with rich detail Masekela’s life, infused with love and loss, sex and drugs, exile and revolution.
American superstar Cynthia Erivo will portray powerhouse vocalist Makeba, as she joins forces with Masekela. The two see music as a powerful weapon in the struggle, to create the Graceland band, a super group designed to bring South Africa’s voice to the world. The Emmy, Grammy and Tony-winner and Academy Award-nominee has also been doing the most studying Makeba.
