Applications Open for the National Youth Development Agency High School Learners Essay Competition. High school learners are invited to participate in an essay competition focused on the themes of the G20 Presidency.

Overview

  • This competition seeks to develop and celebrate young writers, providing a platform for students to express their ideas on global issues.
  • This competition encourages creativity, critical thinking, and the ability to present astute arguments and articulate opinions effectively.
  • Participants are welcome to write their essays in any of South Africa’s official languages. 
  • The competition is open to learners aged between 14 and 18 years from all nine provinces of South Africa. 

Essay Topics: 

Reflect on the importance of South Africa being the first African country to host the G20 Summit. 

Learners may answer the question using the themes below :

1. Solidarity: Strengthening Global Cooperation

How can international collaboration be improved to tackle global crises such as poverty, conflicts, or pandemics?

2. Equality: Bridging Divides for a Just Society

How can we promote equal opportunities in education, employment, and leadership?

3. Sustainability: Shaping a Greener Future

What innovative and practical solutions can young people champion to drive sustainability?

4. Youth Power: Driving Change in a Globalized World How can youth leverage their power to influence decision-making at national and international levels? 

Important Guidelines

  • Learners are encouraged to conduct research; however, plagiarism will not be tolerated.
  • All essays must be original, and any submission found to be plagiarized will be disqualified from the competition.
  • Students are expected to present their own ideas, supported by well-researched information, in a clear and compelling manner.
  • Asking CHAT GPT to write an essay for you does not count as original work.

Essay Format

  • Essays can be handwritten or typed.
  • Word Count: Minimum 500 words, maximum 1000 words.
  • The chosen topic must be clearly mentioned at the top of the essay.

 Entries Must Include:

  • Full Name
  • Age
  • School name and contact details
  • Province

Submission Guidelines

  • Entries must be submitted in JPEG or PNG format (file size not exceeding 10 MB).
  • Submissions should be sent via the provided link.
