President Cyril Ramaphosa to Address the Nation Tonight
President Cyril Ramaphosa to Address the Nation Tonight. There is a family meeting this evening, and this time it’s for a totally different topic. Many remember these kind of meetings during lockdown, but tonight President Cyril Ramaphosa is addressing the nation on South Africa’s Foreign Policy and the upcoming BRICS Summit.
South Africa’s foreign policy focuses on building unity, inclusive economic development and shared prosperity for the African continent and its people. The President is ultimately responsible for the foreign policy and international relations of the country. It is his prerogative to appoint heads of mission, to receive foreign heads of mission, to conduct state‐to‐state relations, and to negotiate and sign all international agreements.
To show that we have a great Foreign Policy, Ramaphosa recently joined other Heads of State at the SADC Summit in Luanda, Angola. The Summit is responsible for the overall policy direction and control of functions of the Community, ultimately making it the policy-making institution of SADC. It will be interesting to listen to the president tonight as he sheds more light on the Foreign Policy.
Another interesting event is the BRICS Summit, which will be hosted by South Africa. BRICS is a group of leading emerging markets and developing countries, including Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. The summit will take place from Aug. 22-24 at the city’s Sandton Convention Centre. It is thus the first in-person BRICS summit since the COVID-19 pandemic.
This evening Ramaphosa will address the nation on South Africa’s Foreign Policy and the much anticipated BRICS Summit. The address is scheduled to take place at 20h00, and it will be televised.
