Lekau Sehoana on What Led to His Egg Business’s Collapse
Lekau Sehoana on What Led to His Egg Business’s Collapse. “Success is not final, failure is not fatal: It is the courage to continue that counts.” —Winston Churchill. This famous quote resonates well with Lekau Sehoana. Many of us see him as a successful businessman, but only a few knows his story.
The inspirational entrepreneur comes from humble backgrounds, and at times had on shoes to wear. In one interview, Sehoana pointed out that in 2003, while doing Grade Eight, they were asked to come to school dressed casually, and as a poverty-stricken teenager, he had to make a plan to also try and fit in with other learners. Between 2003 and 2004, Sehoana was making sneakers with his hands and selling them. He eventually managed to turn his pain into profit and recently bagged the, National Small Business Champion Award 2021.
Shoe business is not the only venture that Sehoana has done. Back in the day he sold eggs to some local spaza shops. It looks like everything he touches turns into Gold, as Sehoana managed to sell 50 boxes a day going for 380. Sadly even the best businesses collapse at some point, something that Sehoana experienced. Due to high competition which offered cheaper stock, he was eventually out of business.
“I used to stock up eggs at the Nulaid Farm and distributing them at the Local Spaza Shops. Grew the business until I’d sell 50 Boxes at R380 a Box per day. The business collapsed due to high competition which became cheaper than my stock price,” Sehoana said.
The good thing about Sehoana is that he did not give up, and still pursued his dream of being a businessman. In July this year, he made headlines after collaborating with Cassper Nyovest. The multi-award winning rapper and TV personality, signed a deal with Drip Footwear worth R100m. The duo also launched Root Of Fame sneakers, which made waves across the country.
