Government Gets Ready to Vaccinate Children from 12 to 17 Years.Two months ago, cabinet approved the vaccination of people aged between 18 and 35 years. Health Minister, Mmamoloko Kubayi-Ngubane announced this major boost after there were few turn ups at vaccination centres across the country. This age group started registering on the 15th of July, and they started receiving the jab from the 1st August 2021 to date.

More developments are taking pace as a new age group has been added to the vaccine rollout Minister of Health, Dr Joe Phaahla and Deputy Minister of Health, Dr Sibongiseni Dhlomo have just briefed the nation on the Vaccine Rollout progress. The Covid-19 vaccines are now open for everyone who is 12 years and older. This will be effective from Wednesday the 20th of October 2021. The vaccine MAC has recommended that children should be given only one dose of Pfizer vaccine.

Further more, this age group will be vaccinated through the Electronic Vaccination Data System (EVDS). They can go to any private and public vaccination site nearest to them.

The Department of Health reports that the number of new infections have continued on a downward trend over the last seven days at 28% reduction and a 3,5% reduction in hospitalization. There are just over 5000 people in hospital who are battling COVID-19.

As of Thursday the 14th October, the cumulative number of
COVID-19 cases identified in South Africa is 2 914 827 with 947 new cases reported.  40 deaths have been reported bringing the total to 88 506 deaths. The cumulative number of recoveries now stand at 2 802 980 with a recovery rate of 96,2%
