Leleti Khumalo Throws Us Back to Her Life In the 90’s. She has always been iconic, and we love this for her. Leleti Kumalo is celebrated here in South Africa and internationally for her amazing talent as an actress. Even to date, she is still relevant, and her name gets mentioned among legends.
At the tender age of 15, Leleti was cast by Mbongeni Ngema in the stage musical Sarafina! She starred alongside the greatest in the game, among them American icon, Whoopi Goldberg. The movie went on to become a worldwide success, earning her a Tony Award nomination and an NAACP Image Award in 1987. Even today, Sarafina! still gets airplay, more so during the June 16 Day of the African Child commemoration. The multi-award winning actress also delivered a critically acclaimed performance in Yesterday in 2004. Leleti has also starred in popular South African soap operas, including Generations (as Busi Dlomo), Uzalo (as MaNzuza), and Imbewu.
Those who are not aware of Leleti’s impact in the industry, now have a chance to do so, thanks to her latest Instagram post. She has just taken us back in time, when she was in her element. This came after a family member asked her to take on a social media trend. Leleti shared a reel showing pictures of herself living the life as an actress. In some pictures, she can be seen posing with legends such as Denzel Washington, Miriam Makeba and Whoopi. We can’t also get enough of her beauty, which has staid intact over the years.
