Malusi Gigaba and Mmusi Maimane Bag PHDs From the University of Johannesburg. Next time you address them, come right, the two gentlemen have earned new titles as Doctors. Dr. Malusi Gigaba, and Dr Mmusi Maimane have both been conferred Doctor of Philosophy in Public Management & Governance by the University of Johannesburg.
Many came to know them as prominent politicians. Maimane was the first black South African to lead the Democratic Alliance (DA) from 2015 to 2019. He has now formed his own party called Build One SA (BOSA). On the other hand, Gigaba has held several significant cabinet positions within the African National Congress (ANC) government. He rose through the ranks of the ANC Youth League, serving as its national president for three consecutive terms from 1996 to 2004.
Now the two gentlemen have added another feather to their hats. On his Facebook page about the graduation, Gigaba wrote that he got inspired by fellow graduate Sipho Hotsticks Mabuse. At 73 years of age, the veteran musician is among the University of Johannesburg Class of 2025. Another one is Gauteng Premeir Panyaza Lesufu, showing the masses that you are never too late to learn
“Seeing Bra Sipho Hotsticks Mabuse (73) in his graduation robe confirmed to me, yet again, that age is nothing but a number. The South Sotho saying – “thuto ha e tsofallwe” – is highly appropriate in this case.
