Job Overview

As a General Worker, you will provide essential support across the upholstery and furniture manufacturing process. Your duties will include assisting skilled production staff, preparing materials, transporting products, maintaining a clean work environment and helping with packing and dispatch activities. You will play an important role in ensuring that production runs smoothly while contributing to the delivery of high-quality furniture products. This position offers valuable experience for candidates looking to grow within the manufacturing industry.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist with the manufacturing of furniture products according to work instructions
• Load, unload and transport raw materials, components and finished products throughout the factory
• Support upholsterers, machinists, carpenters, assemblers, sanders and packers during production
• Prepare materials, tools and workstations before production begins
• Perform basic assembly and fitting of furniture components
• Keep work areas clean, organised and free from hazards
• Remove waste materials and dispose of them according to company procedures
• Assist with maintaining overall factory cleanliness
• Follow quality standards and report defects to supervisors
• Handle materials and finished products carefully to prevent damage
• Ensure completed work meets company quality specifications
• Follow all health and safety procedures at all times
• Wear the required personal protective equipment (PPE)
• Report unsafe conditions, incidents and accidents immediately
• Use equipment and tools safely and responsibly
• Assist with wrapping, packing and labelling finished furniture products
• Load products for delivery when required
• Verify product quantities and product codes before dispatch

Requirements and Skills

• Grade 10 or Matric is preferred
• Previous manufacturing or factory experience will be advantageous
• Physically fit and able to lift and move materials safely
• Good communication skills
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment
• Willingness to work overtime when required
• Strong work ethic and willingness to learn
• Good attention to detail
• Ability to follow instructions and maintain quality standards
• Commitment to workplace safety and company procedures
