Nomzamo Mbatha Shines as Lead and Executive Producer of a Star Studded Local Series. Is there anything she can’t do! Nomzamo Mbatha is definitely one of the most multi-talented personalities we have in the country.
The Amazon’s Coming 2 America’s breakout star, has just bagged a role in series drama Shaka Ilembe, which is about the iconic African king, Shaka Zulu. Set in the 1700s, Shaka Ilembe tells the story from his early childhood through to adulthood. Nomzamo plays Queen Nandi, the revered mother of King Shaka. She will also executive produce the series, which is currently filming in Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal.
“I am honoured to bring the giant that is Queen Nandi to life. History will remember those who informed its people of where we come from, to better understand who we are. I am fortunate to be part of a project that is much bigger than ourselves and to tell this story in our own language. Impi iyeza!” Nomzamo said.
The series boast one of the most talented cast ever, and promising talent in newcomers. Lemogang Tsipa and newcomer Ntando Zondi, will both play Shaka at different ages of his life. Talented actor Thembinkosi Mthembu stars as King Dingiswayo, while another class act Wiseman Mncube has bagged the role of King Zwide. Isono’s Senzo Radebe has been cast as King Senzangakhona.
Actress and media personality Ntando Duma has been cast as Bhibhi KaSompisi Ntuli. She is Chief Senzangakhona’s 9th wife and mother to Sigujana, who was killed by his half brother Shaka. Veteran actress Sthandiwe Kgoroge is playing the formidable Queen Mthaniya. Another talented actress, Sive Mabuya has been cast in new series as one of Chief Senzangakhona’s wives.
