Check Out How Candidates in Correctional Facilities Did in their 2021 Matric Exams. It doesn’t matter your current situation, you can still reach certain goals. This is exactly the case with inmates who sat for their Matric final exams in 2021.

While prison might be the last person anyone would want to be in, these candidates did not let that stop them from nailing their exams. According to the Department of Basic Education, 111 from various correctional facilities were among students who wrote their 2021 Matric final examinations. 59 of those got Bachelor passes, while 29 got Diploma Passes and 11 got themselves Higher Certificate passes.

The overall pass rate of those who wrote Matric in 2021 stands at 76.4%. This is an increase of 0.2 percentage points compared to the 2020 Matric pass rate (76.2%). From these students, 36.4% achieved a bachelor’s pass, 25.2% achieved a diploma pass, and 14.8% achieved a higher certificate pass.

The Department of Correctional Services transfers skills to inmates through formal and vocational training to equip them for life upon their release. DCS continues to achieve great Matric results with the following pass rates recorded in the last five years, 2016 – 72.1%, 2017 – 76.7%, 2018 – 77.3%, 2019 – 82.6% and 2020 –
86.3%.
