7 Smart Ways to Cope If Your Matric Results are Unsatisfactory. Just a few days ago, the 2021 Matric results were released, and a pass rate of 76.4% was recorded. Those who didn’t do well. probably feel bad about themselves. This is because, bad results are a shocker for everyone, and they never fail to bring about disappointment, aggravation, and confusion. This might be a reflection of how you studied, but not necessarily a reflection of you. Grades don’t define you, but how you move on from struggles can define you.

The following seven tips can help you cope if you didn’t do well in your Matric.

1. Give Yourself Time to Process

It’s not possible to just dismiss bad grades and move on with your life. As a human being, it can often help you gain the insight you need to face the next obstacle by allowing yourself to wallow in that sorrow and despondence. Channel your thoughts in the best way that you can. Time does miracles.

2. Own Your Results

This is not the time to blame your teachers, background or anything else. It’s okay to be disappointed and to acknowledge that you have some work to do. Admitting that you’re upset by your results shows that you are an honest person, who is prepared to do better next time.

3. Don’t Be Too Hard on Yourself

It goes without saying that when a person sits for an exam, they expect good results at the end. More so when you have studied throughout the year. If you don’t do well, you feel bad about yourself and that is normal. Having noted that though avoid dwelling on those thoughts and try to dust yourself off as soon as possible, so you can map out your next move.

4. Have Someone to Talk to

Talking to others can help you look at things from a different perspective. If you did fail or perform under your expectations, then talk to the relevant people such as your teachers. Be careful who you open up to though, as some of your friends and family members can rub it in that you failed.

5. Get Over Comparison

We can never have the same exam results with those around us. So avoid comparing your marks with others, more so if they did better than you. If you dwell too much on how others did, you are bound to be disappointment in yourself and even bitter. We are not the same, and you just need to try to accept your skill set and be proud of that.

6. Pick Yourself up Again

Once you’ve let that emotion out you need to pick yourself up, dust yourself off and get back to business. Remember that, although this was a major, you still have future ahead. It’s not the end of the world, and probably got loads of other exams and a career to look forward to in life.

7. Focus on the Bigger Picture

As cliché as this may sound, there is more to life than this exam result. Imagine the future, think about what you want to do when you are not at school and consider what life might be like in 5 years time. Where do you see yourself? Yes, your exam results are important but they do not define you. Remind yourself of other aspects of your life that are important to you.
