Sad Note: Music Industry Loses Another Talent. South Africa woke up to the saddest news concerning one of our talented musicians. Barcadi artist, Vusi Ma R5 was shot dead at Soshanguve M17, Pretoria in the early hours of the morning. The sad incident reportedly happened outside Majents Social Club, where he was performing.

His tragic death comes barely 2 months after another talented South African musician, DJ Sumbody was gunned down. The talented artist and successful entrepreneur together with his two bodyguards were shot dead on the 20th of November last year in Woodmead.

More than 40 bullet casings were found at the scene. Unfortunately, DJ Sumbody and one of his bodyguards died on the spot after being caught in the hail of bullets while his other bodyguard died a couple of days later in hospital.

Now the industry is mourning yet another talent from Pretoria, dying from gun violence. Vusi Sidney Mahlasela Ka Zwane, famously known as Vusi Ma R5 was born in 1965 in Pretoria. He was known for his “African folk” style of music and was referred to as “The Voice” of South Africa. Vusi’s music was influential during the anti-apartheid movement. It covered themes such as freedom, forgiveness, and reconciliation.

He released seven albums and was signed to ATO Records in 2003. In 2012, he was awarded a lifetime achievement award at the South African Music Awards.

Vusi’s untimely passing has shocked many across the music industry. His fans also took to social media where they posted heartfelt tributes. Pretoria ans South Africa at large has definitely lost a legend. We send our deepest condolences to his family, friends, colleagues, fans and everyone dear to Vusi.
