Gauteng Residents Warned of A Very Strong Sulphide Stench. All the more reasons for everyone out there to wear their face masks. Over the past couple of days, Gauteng Weather has been warning residents about the strong sulphide stench in Johannesburg.

Another update has just been released as the sulphure stench continues. It is a serious health concern, with some even complaining about headaches as a result of the smell. High risk groups, include children, the elderly, asthmatic people, those with lung diseases as well as those suffering from heart diseases.

According to the Gauteng Weather Service: “South Easterly winds point to the stench coming from the Mpumalanga direction, possibly Emalahleni or Secunda. It might be a pollution hotspot due to large industrial and electrical plants in these areas, so smell may emanate from there.”

Here is what some residents have to say about the foul smell.
