Mmusi Maimane Launches An Online Petition Against The Reopening of Schools

Mmusi Maimane Launches An Online Petition Against The Reopening of Schools. On Tuesday, Minister Of Basic Education Angie Motshekga announced schools will reopen on the 1st of June. From her briefing, Grade 7 and 12 pupils are expected to return first, followed by the other grades.

As expected, immediately after the announcement different views were shared across social media. One of those who voiced their concern is former DA leader Mmusi Maimane.

Maimane, who is very active on Twitter shared a post in which he condemned the opening of the schools. He argues that looking at the corona virus pandemic, schools are not ready to be reopened. “This is rushes, this is risky,” Maimane said.

He then launched an online petition in which parents, guardians and the nation at large can sign against sending children back to school. “Please join me in advocating for the reopening of schools when it’s actually safe,” he pleaded.
