Monday Blues

Apply the following tips into your life to make your Mondays easier.

1. Come to terms with the problem

There’s actually a scientific explanation behind those dreaded Monday morning blues. Our internal clocks naturally operate on a day that is longer than 24 hours. By the time Monday rolls around each week, we’ve built up a sleep deficit of at least an hour. Of course, the weekend revelries and facing another work week don’t help matters.

2. Prepare for your Mondays before

Lay out the Monday morning outfit and pack a good lunch the night before—eliminating any stress in the A.M. will only make Monday’s more tolerable. And remember to re-set the alarm in order to wake up on time and avoid being late for work.

3. Take small breaks daily

Take small breaks throughout the day. Don’t stay glued to the cubicle all day. Take a walk to get some fresh air, avoid eating lunch at the desk, or if possible, hit the gym for a quick workout. Don’t underestimate the benefit of periodically taking time to mentally and emotionally recharge and refocus.

4. Have fun over the weekend

You can’t recharge your batteries if you’re always using them. This might mean eliminating some activities or finding ways to outsource household chores, like cleaning and yard-work. If you set aside time during the work week for fun, you’ll be less likely to feel like you have to pack your weekends full of fun activities. Even a weekend of too many fun activities can drain you, leaving you feeling unrested. Make an effort to plan your weekend activities with events that leave you feeling content and fulfilled, not frazzled and imposed upon.

5. Get enough sleep

Just because you can sleep in the next morning shouldn’t give you permission to go to bed late the night before. Who can resist the temptation to sleep in? Unfortunately, this luxury comes at a high price: An upset sleep schedule can take a week to get back on track, and allowing your sleep schedule to fall apart again the next weekend sets you up for a merry-go-round sleep ride that’ll end up leaving you feeling perpetually tired.

6. Keep your Monday schedule light

Instead of tackling the biggest and most complicated tasks early on Monday, take some time for easier, more routine stuff. This might get you up and running and give you the energy for the hairier tasks.

7. Be organized

Keep the personal items that you’ll need during the week by your side so you do not lose them. This way, on Monday morning, you’re not searching frantically for your lost phone, wallet, or school/work ID. Keep your backpack for school or purse/computer bag for work ready, keeping all necessary items in it except for those things you’ll need over the weekend.

8. Eat healthy food

Try to limit junk food snacks and visits to fast-food joints. To stay healthy, eat as many fruits and vegetables as possible, like always, with perhaps an occasional extra treat because it’s the weekend.

9. Stay Positive

Hop out of bed the moment you wake up on Monday morning. Do a lot and you will become a Monday  morning person. Lingering in that downy comforter will only draw out the agony. Waking up cranky or tired on a day of going back to routines is not going to help you escape the Monday morning blues. However, even if you do, you can put on an “I’m ready for this week” attitude with some neat tricks

10. Dress for success

Dress up, perk up and show up ready to be positive and help others be positive. Be the light and energy that makes others have a better day. Show and share your spirit, charisma and vibe and make yourself magnetic.
