Manaka Ranaka Opens Up About the Day She Found Out About Her Daughter’s Passing. It has been a year and a couple of months since Katlego Ranaka’s passing. But still the grief is still fresh for her loved ones, more so her mother Manaka Ranaka.
Katlego passed away from natural causes on the 23rd of January 2025. The reality show star and singer’s death devastated fans who had grown to love her from her family reality show, The Ranakas. Her funeral, held on 1 February, saw touching tributes from loved ones, including family members. Katlego left behind her son, mother and two younger siblings.
This past Sunday was Mother’s Day, and for Manaka it hit differently. The day is a reminder that the person who first made her a mom is no more. Also Katlego left a son, and sadly for him, he can’t wish her a happy Mother’s Day in person. That being said, Manaka still celebrates Mother’s Day by virtue of having other children, and also that her mother is still around. The award winning actress and TV personality did and interview at POWER FM this past Sunday about the day. Manaka reflected on how being raised by her mother shaped her outlook on people and trust. She says growing up in a home that welcomed others taught her that, despite the dangers in the world, there are still many good people out there.
Manaka also touched on the sensitive subject of losing her daughter. She shared that on the day of Katlego’s passing, she was on set. When the hospital called her, she couldn’t go because of work commitments. Instead Manaka asked her mother to go on her behalf. She then received the devastating news that Katlego has passed away through a phone call from her mother.
