Just the other day, The Young Nurses Indaba Trade Union became the latest organization to call for the head of de Ruyter. The union says the rolling blackouts are severely impacting hospitals and lives, as life-saving equipment such as ventilators cannot operate. It is understood that De Ruyter’s resignation could lead to the departure from Eskom of a number of other senior executives and engineers. Jan Oberholzer, De Ruyter’s number two and the chief operating officer, will also retire in April 2023.
