Top 10 Best Universities In South Africa 2015

These international university rankings indicate that South Africa’s university system is the strongest on the continent: it is home to five of the six highest ranked African universities, including the two campuses consistently ranked as academically strongest in Africa. The University of Cape Town and the University of the Witwatersrand.

1. University Of Cape Town (World Rank 124)

The University of Cape Town (UCT) is a public research university located in Cape Town in the Western Cape province of South Africa. UCT was founded in 1829 as the South African College, and is the oldest university in South Africa and the second oldest extant university in Africa.

2. University of the Witwatersrand (World Rank 251-275)

The University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, is a multi-campus South African public research university situated in the northern areas of central Johannesburg. It is more commonly known as Wits University.

3. Stellenbosch University (276-300)

Stellenbosch University

Stellenbosch University is a leading public research university situated in the town of Stellenbosch, South Africa. Other nearby universities are the University of Cape Town and University of the Western Cape.

4. University of Pretoria (World Rank 471–480)

University of Pretoria

The University of Pretoria is a multi campus public research university in Pretoria, the administrative and de facto capital of South Africa. The university was established in 1908 as the Pretoria campus of the Johannesburg-based Transvaal University College and is the fourth South African institution in continuous operation to be awarded university status.

5. University of  Kwazulu-Natal (501–550)

University of Kwazulu Natal

The University of KwaZulu-Natal or UKZN is a university with five campuses all located in the province of KwaZulu-Natal in South Africa. It was formed on 1 January 2004 after the merger between the University of Natal and the University of Durban Westvelle.
