Applications Open for the Henry Nxumalo Foundation Senior Journalist Post. The Henry Nxumalo Foundation NPC has built a virtual non-profit newsroom focused on Johannesburg, Our City News (OCN). Our mission is to investigate and report on how the city is governed while promoting accountability, participation, and a people-centred future.
We call on qualified and passionate journalists who believe in integrity, transparency, and active citizenship to apply to join this team. Time commitment: Full-time, 10 months (01 April 2026 to 31 January 2027)
Role Overview
Find, report and produce a range of multimedia stories, including investigations, features and analysis (op-eds) of the highest quality and impact. Mentor a younger, less experienced reporter. Help the team navigate the editorial landscape with clarity and purpose. This person must have a passion to see Johannesburg thrive.
Key Responsibilities
- Produce a range of multimedia stories
- Supervise and support junior journalists
- Edit and review story drafts for clarity, impact, and reach
Requirements
- South African Citizen or Permanent Resident
- Must be based in Johannesburg, South Africa, for the duration of the project
- Must be comfortable working in a remote/hybrid setting
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant area
- Minimum 5 years, preferably with investigative experience
- Proven experience in multimedia journalism, including photographic/video skills, would be an added advantage
- Excellent people skills; diplomacy essential
