10 Things You Didn’t Know About Vernon Philander

Not everyone has the best start within their career path because of the many influences that come into play such as your background, your schooling and finances. Vernon Philander is also one of humble beginnings form the street of the Cape Flats. Here’s a list of things that you didn’t know about him.

2. Vernon is the second fastest test player to 50 wickets.

3. He grew up in the cape flats where he and his friends used to play cricket in the streets.

4. After morning training he removes himself from training by going shopping, playing golf or having his favourite food, pizza.

5. Vernon also plays for Cape Cobras in South African domestic cricket.

6. He was nominated for SuperSport Series Cricketer of the Year at the 2010 SA Cricket Awards.

7. Vernon won the SA Sportsman of the Year Award in 2012.

8. He has played first team cricket since the age of 13.

9. He hosts a blanket drive every winter.

10. He started his own charity called the Vernon Philander Foundation.
