Luthando “lootlove” shosha Interview

Before gracing our TV screens Luthando “LootLove” Shosha was a radio jockey at Kingfisher fm. LootLove is surely making Eastern Cape proud and she has proven to Mzansi that she was worth voting for. She definitely is an individual with unquestionable talent, fresh and very cool!. There is no doubt that she’s a rising star, taking SA by storm. In this interview she talks about her journey thus far.

Luthando03YV: In just a sentence, who is Luthando Shosha?

A tall, chilled, fun and random human being. Haha. 🙂

YV: Please tell us about your childhood, how where like growing up?

I was a very active kid. Always the girl amonst the boys 🙂 all bout bikes and roller blades and climbing over walls and running down hills etc. Dolls and stuff bored me. Lol

YV: Yes, we have been itching to ask about the name “Lootlove”, how did it come about?

I had friends from Botswana who shortened my 8 character name to “Lut” but then people pronounced it wrong so we figured we’d change the spelling to “Loot” without actually thinking about the meaning of the word. Then I needed a twitter handle so I took “Loot” and added the name “Love” which is what my actual name “luthando” means.

YV: How did your love for media come about?

It started at Kingfisher fm. I started working there at the end of the year in 2009. I was a radio Jockey and that world scared and fascinated me. Talking to thousands of people was incredible, thrilling.

YV: You won the SABC 1 Live presenter search competition in the year 2012 how was the feeling like? And did you expect that to happen?

Honestly I didn’t. I won’t lie and say I didn’t hope I would but when it happened I was so overwhelmed with emotion. Couldn’t even breathe and I spent time just crying with my mom.

YV: Tell us about your first day on the show, where you nervous?

VERY nervous! Haha! I even messed up and introduced and artists only to turn around and ask him what his name is. That was very embarrassing but also that’s the beauty of Live television, its not about the mistake, it’s about how you recover from that very same mistake.

YV: What is the strongest asset you bring to the entertainment industry?

Originality I guess. I’m a very calm, chilled, respecftul person. I’m not saying everyone is the same but I feel a lot of people felt pressure to do things a certain way, but I’ve never been one to conform, I just do me and if you dig it, that’s cool. If you don’t, that’s cool too. Lol.

YV: From your perspective, what do you like least about the entertainment industry?

I think that not everyone is what you imagine them to be, and that’s partly our fault as fans because we glorify people who are only human, and at times we get disappointed when we meet them, and they don’t meet our expectations. Also, it’s very very small so there are tons on uncessary things that happen.

YV: What has been the biggest influence on your career?

A few things influenced my career. I have a will to succeed and stay at it. I feel like I’m running a relay and carrying the baton so if I don’t run til the end I would messed up for anyone who worked hard before me. Then there’s amazing women like Jo-anne Strauss and Khanyi Dhlomo who are powerhouses, graceful and have had longevity. Those ladies really influenced me.

YV: Who do you look up to for inspiration?

My mom, my bro and the closest people to me.

Luthando 00YV: What is the most important thing you’ve accomplished in your career so far?

I guess showing that being different isn’t a bad thing. I’m not the typical girl but I can’t still stand on your screen every Friday night and deliver a good show!

YV: What do you think about today’s youth?

We’re rebels without a cause *sigh* I think our focus is also on the wrong thing. The obsession with being cool is sadenning and we’re followers not leaders. We’re all a little misdirected. We’ll find our way though. We also have a lot of pressure to succeed and that can be extremely damaging to some of us.

YV: What do you think can be done to overcome the challenges facing the youth?

Guidance and just someone to say “hey, its ok to be different. It’s all ok to not know all the answer, and figure life out by the age of 18.” It’s so important to always remember your morals, remember what your parents taught you. They may not be young but they were also youthful at some point, besides, they’re always right. You have nothing to prove to anyone but yourself. Life isn’t a competition and you can’t compete with your friends’ destinies. Always, do you. It’s so important to be centered and secure in yourself.

YV: What do you like best about being a TV presenter?

The artists I get to meet and interact with!

YV: Which book are you reading now?

Just finished reading Paulo Coelho’s The alchemist, again… For like the 5th time.

YV: What is your favourite food?

Moms cooking! Haha.

YV: What do you do for fun?

Fun time is hanging with my closest friends! Anything I do with them is incredibly fun.

YV: What car are you driving?

Not driving at the moment.

YV: Any other projects you are working on that we should know about?

You’ll find out soon enough 😀

YV: Your advice to young people who would like to pursue a career in the entertainment industry?

If you’re looking for fame, don’t bother. Lol.
