A few days back Pemphero Mphande, shared that he was awarded a Doctorate Degree in Community Development by UNISA. The Malawian socialite, claimed that the accolade was for the Humanitarian work he did raising over 200 million for the sick and others in need. In gratitude, he expressed that the Honorary PhD belongs to all of those that do charity work together with him.

Another Malawian, musician Patience Namadingo is also claiming he got a doctorate from UNISA. The third person is vMansoor Sharif Karim, who claims to have received honorary doctorates from the institution in 2020, 2022 and 2023. All the three gentlemen posed at the institution wearing graduation attire and holding certificates. It all looked so real. Patience even went a far a sharing a graduation video.

UNISA has just issued out a statement, denying conferring honorary doctorates on the three men. In a statement UNISA has issued out, the university states that it has just learnt through the media claims that the two and a “certain Mansoor Sharif Karim claim to have received honorary doctorates from the university in 2020, 2022 and 2023. The university also added that the certificates that Mphande and Namadingo are holding, are not from them. UNISA thus distances itself from the trio, and vehemently condemned the use of the university for these kind of fraudulent activities.
