Sol Phenduka Celebrates World Radio Day With A Cool Varsity Radio Throwback. Radio not only unites us, it accompanies us and entertains us. It reaches more people around the world than any other medium. Proclaimed in 2011 by the Member States of UNESCO, and adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in 2012 as an International Day, February 13 became World Radio Day (WRD).

The theme for the 12th edition of the World Radio Day, to be celebrated on 13 February 2023, is “Radio and Peace”. Radio personalities around the world are celebrating the day with beautiful posts on social media. A number of them are sharing their journeys as radio presenters, whereas others appreciate the opportunity they have to work such a fulfilling job.

Even here in South Africa the mood is on a high. One of those celebrating the day is none other than Sol Phenduka. The media personality, podcast co-host and musician took to Twitter where he shared a picture of where hos journey began. It was back when he was still a student at the University of Johannesburg, where he also worked on the varsity radio station.

So many of our radio personalities are also celebrating the day. METRO FM radio presenters are at Wits University simulcasting with with Vow FM to honor the special day. The likes of Melanie Bala and Proverb are having a great time on the day.

Other iconic radio personalities like Kgomotso Moeketsi, Linda Sibiya, Lindi Serame and Mpho Maboi have taken to social media to share a word or two.
