Classes Suspended At CPUT Following A Protest
Classes have been suspended at Cape Peninsula University of Technology after a protest by in-sourced workers and students at CPUT’s Bellville campus yesterday. Protesters are apparently demanding that recently in-sourced workers receive full benefits
On Thursday, CPUT’s Central Student Representation Council said they had lost patience with university management for allegedly not honoring an agreement made in November 2016. This stated that security, garden staff, cleaners, and caterers would be in-sourced within three months.Management has been given until the end of the month to provide workers with contracts.
Following ongoing violent protests, other universities like the University of the Witwatersrand, University of Johannesburg, Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University, University of Cape Town, and CPUT undertook to end outsourcing.
