10 Things You Didn’t Know About the Late Busi Lurayi. Monday South Africa woke to the sad news of Busisiwe Lurayi’s passing. According to a statement shared by her family, the actress passed away at her home on Sunday 10 July and was confirmed dead by medical personnel.
The award winning actress is one of Mzansi’s most talented stars to emerge out of the country. There is so much to say about Busi, such that it wasn’t easy to come up with only 10 facts from her personal life and career. Nonetheless, learn more about the actress from the 10 facts below;
1. 35 year old Busi is best known for her starring role as Phumzile on the SABC1 sitcom City Ses’la and its spin-off series Ses’Top La which premiered in 2012.
2. She was also cast on ITV drama series Wild At Heart starring Amanda Holden. It was about a British family who relocate to a game reserve in South Africa.
3. In May 2006 Busi made a guest appearance on the medical drama series ER, playing the role of Sittina in the episode entitled “There Are No Angels Here” (Season 12, Episode 20).
4. She played the starring role of Winnie Molepo, a lawyer who works for the Sokhulu brothers, in the SABC1 drama series Sokhulu & Partners, in 2008.
5. In November 2011 Busi joined the cast of the SABC1 soapie Generations in the role of Swazi Lukhele, a socialite wife who was married to David Lukhele but in the process of divorcing him.
6. In 2012 she was a main cast member of the Mzansi Magic sitcom S.I.E.S., playing the head of the incompetent government department of Social Impact and Empowerment Strategy.
7. Busi was also a TV personality of note. In 2013 the multi talented star was the host of the M-Net game show Million Rand Money Drop.
8. She made a comeback to acting two years back as a lead actress on Netflix series, How to Ruin Christmas. How to Ruin Christmas: The Baby Shower is currently in production, but sadly the star of the show has just lost her life
9. Because of her talent, Busi bagged awards in the industry. She won The Golden Horn Award for Best Supporting Actress in a TV Comedy in 2006 and Golden Horn Award for Best Actress in a TV Comedy in 2011.
10. Busi has a daughter who she calls Ayana. Her baby daddy is businessman Mziwoxolo Qwelane. The pair had some drama looming in 2020 when Qwelane claimed she stole furniture from his home in Randburg.
