Transnet Freight Rail is looking for a Trainee Train Assistant in Warrenton (Reference Number: 50004046)

Purpose of Job

To assist the Train Driver in the movement of the train, shunt the train and to convey information to the client centre en route to enhance the safe, fast movement of commodities.

Position outputs:
Prepare Train/Locomotives
Provide En Route Assistance
Prepare Communication Equipment
Shunting Movements
Stable Train/Locomotive

Requirements:
Grade 12 with Maths
At least 1,6 meters tall
Visual acuity
Physically able to lift and carry objects (be prepared to be subjected to assessment of physical abilities)
Applicants must have the potential and attributes necessary to be trained to efficiently and safely perform the tasks of a Train Assistant and to be trained as a Train Driver.

Applicants must however possess the following:
Psycho motor
Depth perception
Communication (reading, written and verbal)
Attributes

Safety conscious
Environmental awareness
Conscientious
Prepared to work overtime
Prepared to work shifts

N.B.
(a) Be prepared to work irregular hours and in adverse conditions
(b) Successful applicants will be required to enter into an agreement to work in the functional hierarchy in which they are appointed for a period of at least 3 years on successful completion of their training
(c) This is a Safety Related and/or Safety Critical Job
