Simphiwe Dana On Why She didn’t Take Part In the Recent Purple Movement Against Gender Based Violence

Simphiwe Dana On Why She didn’t Take Part In the Recent Purple Movement Fighting Gender Based Violence. Simphiwe Dana is among those celebrities, who is never been afraid to share their opinion on social media. She has fearlessly taken on the likes of President Cyril Ramaphosa, Musa Mseleku and the Mazwai sisters..

Most recently she dragged Nomzamo Mbatha and the Shaka iLembe cast, labeling them copycats. The multi-award wining musician said the Shaka iLembe leading lady and other cast members used her trademark hairstyles, but she got no credit from them.

I’m now fed up with brand appropriating my style. The least you can do us acknowledge where you got the ideas from. I’m talking to you Shaka iLembe and Nomzamo Mbatha. The other sister I won’t mention. It started here. Appreciate, don’t, appropriate,” Simphiwe said.

Although she was dragged to the point of deleting the posts, Simphiwe is still not afraid to share her opinions online. She has just applauded women who are fighting for the country. Simphiwe then added that they are not like the fake ones who use feminism just for vibes. On that point she shared that she did not join the Purple Movement that took place last month, as she is not fond of fakers.

So proud of our women. They’re fighting for the country. Not those fake ones who use feminism to earn a name. There’s a reason I didn’t join the purple movement. I hate fakers,” Simphiwe said.

The Purple Movement was initiated by Woman for Change SA organization. Women across the country were encouraged to silence the nations on Friday, 21 November 2025. This saw any refrain from all paid and unpaid work in workplaces, universities, homes, and communities. Many people showed their solidarity by changing their profile pictures to purple.
