“Rape Can Happen to Anyone,” Itumeleng Bokaba
“Rape Can Happen to Anyone,” Itumeleng Bokaba. Since her case against Nhlamulo Nota Baloyi, Itumeleng Bokaba has been constantly on the news. The talented actress and musician accuses the music executive of rape.
As it is the case with such cases, there are those in full support of Itumeleng, whereas others are in Nota’s camp. Well, the case is before the courts, and the two personalities can only wait for a final judgement. The case has been rescheduled for October 22, and Nota is currently out on a R5k bail.
Itumeleng recently opened up bout her feelings since the incident. Taking to social media, she shared how debilitated and disconnected from her body she felt. This made her question a lot of things about her body.
“I’ve felt debilitated and disconnected from my body these past two months, questioning whether it was an object to be exploited or a vessel containing my soul. I wondered if I had the right to decide which energies roam the fields of my being, or if others could dictate how I should present myself, based on their own perceptions,” she said.
After much deliberation, Itumeleng understands that being violated was never her choice. She refers to it as a crime committed against her. She has now decided to stand in boldness, carry a fearless spirit, and not shrink. With a powerful bikini photo shoot, she decided to reclaim her body.
Another thing, Itumeleng understands that rape can happen to anyone, anywhere, and to those you’d least expect. In her words, it doesn’t matter who you are, what you wear, or how you act. There are no ‘types’ of victims.
