Thembi Seete Credits the Late Teboho Mahlatsi for His Role On Her Acting Career. South Africa is still reeling from shock after the news of Teboho Mahlatsi. The renowned writer, director and producer passed away on Monday.

Mahlatsi was involved in a lot of film projects in the country. Many know him as part of the groundbreaking and controversial youth drama Yizo Yizo (1999). The show is currently being aired on the streaming service Netflix. Yizo Yizo launched a lot of acting careers, as it introduced a number of upcoming talents.

One individual who made her presence in the acting industry through Yizo Yizo is Thembi Seete. She played the character of Hazel, one of the prominent characters. Thembi also sang the popular track Sure Ntombazana for the soundtrack to Yizo Yizo 2, which helped launch her solo music career. Now that the brains behind Yizo Yizo is no more, Thembi took it upon herself to tell the world how he launched her acting career.

….I remember seeing his work for the first time. I was amazed and wanted to find out who created Yizo Yizo. Before then, I had never had an interest in finding out who was behind a production, and it took a series such as Yizo Yizo to ignite my interest in finding out about the teams behind a show. Tebogo happened to be one of the 1st I came across. To cut a long story short, I auditioned for Yizo with my long Boom Shaka braids, boots, and nails, and I never thought I’d be selected to be part of the show. The story mainly focused on the Township school’s challenges. I remember the moment we met. I walked up to him and told him I wanted to be part of the Yizo Yizo. Even if he could show my shoulder or me just passing, it was okay. I want to be part of something great. I auditioned🥺 got one of the leading roles , and more followed; after that, That’s how I joined the Bomb Shelter Family
Tebogo, Desiree, and Angus gave me a chance, and that one door opened many doors.
They didn’t only see
someone passing by
They saw potential,” Thembi said.
