Young Talent Development at Alexander Forbes

The Alexander Forbes Young Talent Development programme is geared towards offering workplace exposure to unemployed, qualified individuals within the insurance industry, in line with their field of study. The programe is divided into:-

Learnerships [minimum matric up to degree studies]
Internships [minimum 3 year diploma]
Graduate Development [minimum honours degree]
The programme will be based in Gauteng and commences in January 2014

Minimum Requirements

You must be an unemployed South African citizen
Have a minimum matric certificate to apply for a Learnership programme
Be in possession of a 3 year diploma or higher to apply for the Internship programme
Only candidates with a minimum of a honours degree will be considered for the Graduate Development programme
Applicants should understand, and aspire to work in the insurance industry, and
Be computer literate
1. Learnerships

The following learnership programmes are on offer and applicants are to choose a programme in line with their study field or future career aspirations. Learners will attend classes internally towards completing one of the following qualifications and also assume normal duties (hands-on experience) to complement their studies. The programmes extend over a period of 12 months, except for the accounting programme which extends over 18 months.

Medical Claims assessing Level 4
Sales and Marketing Level 4
Short Term Insurance Level 4
(IT), Microsoft Certified Systems Developer Level 5
Certified Accounting Technician Level 5
Wealth Management Level 5
National Certificate in Financial Planning Level 6
2. Internship

The programme is designed for unemployed graduates whose studies are firmly in line with the insurance sector and are deemed to possess the required competencies to thrive in the workplace without exposure to additional insurance industry related qualification(s). The programme extends over a period of 1 year. Interns will only receive in-house unaccredited training and mentoring to help socialise them into their roles and the workings of a corporate environment.

3. Graduate Development programme

This is a 2 year, highly competitive programme with an entry level of a honours degree in Actuarial Sciences, Investments, Financial Planning, Accounting, Mathematics and Economics. Graduates will have an option to rotate to other departments in line with their career aspirations and fields of study. This is aimed at helping the graduate to have a better understanding of the business and to explore areas of specialisation before assuming a permanent non-rotational role.
